Pre-Release Log #1


Welcome to the first of many logs for this mag-tastical cosy farming, game with it's own unique twist. 

The general concept for this game, is that you are a survivor in an apocalyptic outburst of zombie mayhem. You as a survivor come across an unoccupied, un-inhabited farm. Which you claim as your own, to farm, expand, and defend with your own love and devotion. We hope it to become the next best game. 

We begun building this game during the CougarCup 2024 Game Jam, it is a week long jam. And if it does well within the jam, perhaps we will begin development and make it into the next best cosy farming survival game of the century. But until then, we hope you enjoy watching the development and playing the game. 

The Development;

Anywho! On to what you came here for, the progress so far. 

So, the development for this, yet to be named, game began on Sunday 29th September 2024. And during this Sunday aka today, we have accumulated some assets which were created by others not apart of Wi.Bi Studios. This was because we needed some quick assets as we couldn't get / find an artists who was willing to collaborate. After we found some relevant assets, we began developing the game. 

Movement;

The first thing we did in terms of development, was the movement. We created a standard movement script, with WASD as movement controls. We attempted to use cinemachine for the camera but couldn't figure out how to get the player to rotate with the camera, and so we swapped it to a standard camera script. But as writing this, I think I found a way around the cinemachine and player rotation issue. However it is now too late to change our methods. 

Level Design;

Instantly after the movement was completed to a satisfactory standard, we began to build some of the environment. We imported a fair few of the assets, then began building from these. Obviously starting with the terrain, and deciding which one was best.  After terrain had been decided we spawned in them, copied them laid them out to be a suitable size. Now we have the floor. It was time to build a fence for the starting area, which will be able to be expanded. 

Inventory;

Now. Once the level was too a decent point. We progressed code and development with building an inventory system, as well as an item pickup system. The inventory system, works and looks clean. At the moment, it works well. Who knows though perhaps new mechanics breaks old ones. 

Tomorrow;

Now, that today has drawn to a close in regard to development and progress as well as daylight. What we will do tomorrow, is aim to create a health bar & stamina bar, with their respective decrease in value as well as their respective healing properties. I think we shall also begin work on a currency and market place system. Then if there is still time in the day, we shall work on creating the farming systems, and then perhaps the wave based attack system.
