Oooo yay! A gamer! Welcome wild one.
This is our first ever game devlog.
First, I must announce that this game has been in development for a couple weeks before these devlogs begun. There wasn't any particular reason behind it, we just sort of forgot devlogs existed to be honest. Anyway, with the nasties out the way, we may begin the first official devlog for Forged in Shadows.
Game Description / Outline
Forged in Shadows, is a game about one particular soul born into a poor family within a time of mystical monsters and mysterious gods who ruled the realms by fear and torment. Riled with fear, and terror he made a vow of strength. Where in which he would never be scarred, unprotected or useless within a fight and so he began is practice of metal, where he made swords and taught himself how to wield such a weapon.
Catch Up
Let's do a quick catchup. The first week, was project planning and setting up the files. We spent most of the week planning the general concept of the game. Like what we wanted the game to be. We chose a sword making factory like game. Something you might see on Roblox. Since then it has been upgraded.
The second week, we began development. Our artist, TJ, began work on making a sword, he then put that on hold as materials wasn't working then he began work and completed an iron bar for melting down as well as a crate for material carrying. As for programming, an interaction system was incorporated, and then some of the bench functionality was started not completed but started.
Present day
Now you are relatively caught up let's begin discussing what we did this week. Half the week, I have spent working on this website improving and upgrading it. Then the rest of the week was game dev, working on the project.
General Development / Plan Alterations
On Wednesday of this week. We both thought it was a good idea to explore Unity Asset Store, for some environmental packs. This was to help bring some stuff away from TJ's plate. We did indeed find some packs and we will be using said packs. However, these assets are due to change either before or after games release. Depending if TJ manages to get all his modelling done in time, but even if he does we might just release the game early. Who knows what is to come.
We also had a huge breakthrough in terms of story and how it will function. For the sake of mystery, I will not be telling you. As we do want you to have something to look forward too.
Artistic Aspects
As you know, our artists is TJ. Well you would know if you have read everything. Any who, he this week has been working on a merchant character, this will be like a loyal companion. It has taken him pretty much all week, because he is not used to the character design he wishes to create. Which I won't speak off, to try and add some mystery here. hehe. He spent most of the week as well trying to learn animation as he's never done that yet, so far he's only worked with inanimate objects. I'm hoping he can complete the character in full by end of next week but who knows, maybe he needs an extra week.
Programming Practice
Now for the fun to begin. Hi! I'm Liam, the programmer. I will to make life easier be writing in first person. Anyway, now the formalities are out of the way, lets begin. So! The past week, I have been planning, and building the players forge location. Where they will spend most of their time. I have also converted the players camera from third person to first person.
Next Week
I hope that TJ can complete the merchant character at least so I can begin incorporating them after next week. As for me, I'm going to try and finish building the forge and the surrounding area, if I manage to do so, I'll begin work on the player such as their health, stamina, inventory, armour etc.
